My favorite topic from this year in Earth Science would be the astronomy unit. The astronomy unit talked about the universe and how it was created. It also talks about how there could be other life forms in other galaxies and how we are searching for them. What i thought was most interesting were black holes and worm holes. I found this interesting because that wouls just be awesome if time portals did exist and what the inside of a black hole could really look like. I mean thats just cool how u could look up at the sky and watch objects float then suddenly disappear because they fell into the boundary of a balck hole. This topic also dealt with how scientist think the universe will come to an end. They believe in the Big Crunch Theory. There's just so much to explore in space and I can just think of the possiblities of what could really be waiting for us to discover it.

EXTRASOLAR PLANETS
1. Four ways that atsronomers can detect extrasolar planes are Radial Velocity, Astrometry, Transit Method, and Optical Detection.
2. The one I choose is Transit Method. This method explains that when a planet passes a star and its observers line of sight, part of the star will be blocked by the planet. This reduces the star apparent brightness. Highly sensitive detectors would detect that change in brightness thus knowing theres a planet nearby.
3. More than 1o planet have be detected using this method.

FAVORITE PLANET
My favorite planet would be Earth. Earth is my favorite planet because it supports life. I have lived every day of my life on this beautiful planet. It is unique in its own way and has so much to offer. There are many planets and animals that have their lives supported by Earth. This planet is important to everyones life. Without Earth here to support us, we would have nowhere else to go.

PLUTO
To me Pluto is a planet. It has some of the same characteristics that the other eight planets contain. It is sphere shaped and just because it has a different orbit than the other planets and is a bit smaller doesn't mean you should take the name planet from Pluto. Since i was in elementary school i have always been taught that Pluto was a planet.

MONSOONS
1. A monsoon is the seasonal reversal of wind.
2. Two factors that affect monsoons are thermal blow and the Bermuda High.
3. Two reasons why monsoons could be considered a good thing because they can bring water to crops in dry areas and the use of brust and breaks.
4. Two negatives of monsoons are intense heat and thunderstorms.
5. So many people died in India because of constant rainfall from Monsoons which caused lots of flooding.
6. I think that monsoons are good and bad. They can be very helpful but can also cause lots of damage.

CONDENSATION
Five examples of condensation and their nuclei are
- A window : from water vapor in the air
- a mirror : steam from the shower
- grass : morning dew
- water bottle : condensation form being in the fridge
5. glass : when water vapor touches glass
GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is an increase of the average temperature of the atmosphere. I do believe in global warming. I feel that the temperature in the atmosphere is rising and this does cause lots of damage. Pollution contributes to global warming such as cars releasing toxins. Carbon dioxide also leads to global warming. carbon dioxide collects heat from the sun and heat the Earth. Spaying hairspray in a certain can can also cause global warming. Some people may not believe in global warming. This may be because they feel that CO2 has nothing to do with the earth's temperature rising. They also feel that this is a natural process and its just because of the sun.

HURRICANES
I chose hurricane Andrew. This hurricanes occurred in 1992. It was one of the most destructive hurricanes in the U.S. It started as a tropical wave that came from the west coast of Africa. It was the third intense hurricane of record to hit the United States. This hurricanes is responsible for 26 deaths total and 26.5 billion dollars worth of damage. Andrew reached a Category 4 and lowered to a Category 3.

AIR MASSES
The four main types of air masses are mT, mP, cP, and cT. the letter m meaning maritime or wet. The letter T meaning tropical or warm. The letter c meaning continent or dry. The letter P meaning polar or cold. The air mass most likely to bring a hurrincane is a mT. This is because for a hurricane to form it needs warm water. The air mass that brings a drought is a cT. This is because for a drought to form it has to have dry, warm air. The air mass for a lake-effect snowstorm to form is a cT . Two other types of air masses are highland and arctic. Highland air masses occurs in areas with large elevation changes over short distances. an arctic air mass has the same characteristics as a polar mass but the only difference is that it is colder with lower dewpoints.

RADIATION
"IR" radiation is infrared radition that has been released back into the atmosphere. The three main gases that cause the greenhouse effect are carbon dioxide, methane, and water. In my opinion, the greenhouse effect is a bad thing. This is because it threatens the enviornment and causes the Earth to warm.

RECYCLING
We should recycle glass because every ton of glass recycled save about 9 gallons of fuel, at least 30% of glass containers on grocery stores shelves can be recycled and container glass can be recycled repeatedly with no loss of quanity or quality.
Recycling and reusing are the same thing. They are both a good thing to do.
Fayettevilles citizens can recycle by using the blue recycling bins to collect recyclables from the week.
The closest recycling drop off center closest to my home is Camden Site.
9 things plastic can be recycled into are it has been used are bottles, shower stalls, recycling bins, scouring pads, paint brushes, industrial strapping, drainpipes, plastic lumber, and flowerpots.
5 things metal can turn into after it has been melted down are cans, automobile parts, siding, appliances and building materials.
To promote recycling I can help out actually doing it and i could tell my friends and have the mtell their friends to recycle.

4 OCEANS
One of the four oceans i choose is the Atlantic Ocean. The five most important resources we get from this ocean include fishing and beautiful stones. It also includes petroleum and gas fields, sand and gravel. Last it has marine mammal that we ship around the world.

GEOLOGIC TIME WEBQUEST
Scientists can tell the age of a tree by how many rings it contains. Each rings represents a year for hoe old the tree is. This could be helpful with finding out how old a fossil could be if it was located within the tree. Also can give a relative date of when the aminal of the fossil became extinct. This is an example of absolute dating because it is giving the exact age of the tree.

EARTHQUAKES V.S VOLCANOES

Well to me neither one is more dangerous than the other. It really just depends on if many people live in that area. Both are very dangerous and can cause many deaths to many lives. If an earthquake or volcano eruption occurs in a place without people then it isnt't dangerous to people. But if this was to occur in a place with many people then the event can become very dangerous.
- EARTHQUAKE- A major earthquake that occured in China May 12 and had a magnitude of 7.9
- VOLACNO ERUPTION- A major volcano eruption that occured is Nevada del Ruiz, in 1985 killing 23,000 people.

UNCONFORMITIES
D comes first because all the other letters lie on D. A is an unconformity and goes through D. E is next and that also goes through D because it also is an unconformity. B comes after E because C lies on all the rocks making it the youngest. The unconformities are cause by something shifting the formation of the rock.

TRIP TO CHINA
- The deepest mine in the world is 3.6 kilometers and that mine is called TauTona in South Africa.
- You would have to dig 6378 km of rock.
- My friends and I are taking a trip to China. I have found another way to travel to China without flying or taking a ship. I have discovered a way to go straight through the Earth. Right now we just started on our way down. we are passing the crust and there is a lot of dirt. as we go down further i start to see red clay. the transporter starts to move faster and i can barely see out of the heat resistance windows. i start to feel a bit hotter as i travel down so i look out the window. i suspect that we have now reached the mantle. we have ben traveling at super thspeed through the mantle for a good half hour. then we reached the outer core. all i see out the window is a thick liquid. i learned back in my science class that the liquid is iron. im looking out the window when all of a sudden boom! boom! i think we have reached the inner core. the inner core is made if solid iron. so i turn in our drill on the tip of the transporter and we start to drill through the core. it takes a while but we finally make it to the other side. From there the rest of the trip was like the beginning but was just in reverse. We went through the outer core, mantle, and then finally the crust. We popped out the ground and everyone around us were startled. When we got out of our tunnel all the people ran to it. out of no where heated magma began to rise and then splatered into the air.

GRADE FOR BLOG POSTS
For my blog posts this quarter, i think i deserve an A. I think this because I have work hard on making sure all my blogs have the required requirements. i made sure I have correct spelling and that the sentences flow together. I have had to edit my blog because they didn't make sense the first time I wrote the blog. I also made sure that i got all my blogs finished by the due date.

THE TYPES OF ROCKS
The two main types of igneous rock are intrusive and extrusive rock. Intrusive rock could include diorite. Diorite is a coarse-grained rock that contains a mixture of feldspar, pyroxene, hornblende and quartz. An example of extrusive rock could be andesite. Andesite is a fine-grained rock composed mainly of plagioclase with other minerals.
The two main types of metamorphic rocks are foliated and non-foliated. A foliated metamorphic rock could be gniess. Gneiss is a rock that has a banded appearance and is made up of granular mineral grains. A non-foliated metamorphic rock is marble. Marble is produced from the metamorphism of limestone.
Two main types of sedimentary rocks are clastic and chemical sedimentary rocks. An example of clastic is breccia. Breccia is composed of large angular fragments. An example of chemical is limestone. Limestone is a rock that is composed of calcium carbonate.

GAS MILEAGE
If my parents had to buy a new 2009 or 2010 car i would recommend a Toyota Prius. I would recommend this car because it has good mileage. Since it has good mileage they can save lots of money. In the real world gas prices rise all the time so it would make life easier if the gas would last longer.

MAP PROJECTIONS

My favorite kind of map projection would be the Mercator Projection. I chose this one because it is the most commonly used so it must be easy to read. If I ever needed to use a map I could use this one because it is not as difficult. I have learned that the map is distorted at the north and south. I like the way it is flat because it seems like it takes less work to read it.

THE MANY SCIENCES

Out of all the types of science, one that I find interesting would be oeanography. I chose this one because I have always been fasinated with things that live and/or involve the ocean. I think about how prehistoric animals lived in the ocean and it just has that connection with history. On the other hand, I also like astronomy. I always think of the things that go beyond what we as people have discovered. There may be a whole other world that exist outside of our universe.
